Define your Outdoor Spaces with Retaining Walls

Define your Outdoor Spaces with Retaining Walls

When it comes to retaining walls, we usually picture the type that is used to contain slopes or hillsides. Well, times have changed and these walls now have multiple functions as well as a vast array of great designs to make your property look stylish. The advantage of this type of wall is that they can be functional as well as decorative. You can find them made of different materials such as wood, concrete block, natural stones or even man-made materials. You can certainly give your outdoors a makeover just by getting these walls installed in your property.

How to define your outdoor space

Outdoor spaces have become an important part of a property as many homeowners like to relax and enjoy the outdoors with family or host outdoor parties every now and then. A retaining wall can help you define your outdoor space and give it a whole new look in the bargain.

Here are some of the ways that retaining walls can help define your exterior:

Create boundaries:

Many properties have yard sections that are sloped and having a retaining wall can help you create a boundary. This boundary will make your outdoor living space more attractive and you can decorate it just the way you like without having to worry about hilly spots in your yard.

If your yard has more sloped areas, you can create multi-level outdoor rooms. This way, your yard gets divided into sections and you can make plans to make each space purposeful and of course, really pretty! Of course, retaining walls can be used primarily to retain earth or soil to prevent erosion and shifting.

Give a grand look:

Installing retaining walls for your front yard is also a great idea. You can give this area of your property a whole new definition by installing them on your front and side perimeters or boundaries, giving your walkways, pathways or driveway a grand yet stylish feel. Retaining walls also achieve a unique look that is different to most of the houses in your neighborhood.

Provide privacy:

We all enjoy a little bit of privacy in our homes and with retaining wall fences, you can make it harder for nosy neighbors to peek into your yard while you and your family are relaxing. If you are someone who likes to spend time alone in your outdoor space, you should definitely consider installing walls to give you the peaceful solitude you desire.

Installation:

Outdoor spaces are an important area of every home so it is only fair that you give it the same thought and care that you do for the interiors of your home. Retaining walls can be fairly simple to install and easy on your pocket, especially modular concrete block walls, which can be found at your local big-box store or landscape yard.

Wood and natural stone retaining walls do require more expertise and time to install so we recommend you hire a qualified hardscape contractor in these cases but obviously, the costs will be greater depending on the scope of your project.
