Landscaping Tips for Fall/Winter

Landscaping Tips for Fall/Winter

Fall and especially winter aren’t exactly the seasons that come to mind when you think of a beautiful landscape in your outdoor spaces. However, you’ll be surprised to know that it is possible to have a great-looking landscape during these seasons. There are many ways that you can make your garden look magical even in the middle of a snowy winter!

Tips that you can use for fall and winter landscaping

There are always trees and shrubs that grow during fall and winter. With a bit of advanced planning, you can make your garden landscape look as beautiful as it does during spring and summer. Here are a few helpful tips to give you an idea of what to do:

Ornamental grasses:

There are plenty of ornamental grasses on the market and they will look wonderful during fall and winter. They will provide greenery throughout the cold season. Varietals with foliage that change colors for fall are always a great idea too as they will turn even brighter as winter draws nearer.

Evergreen trees:

Evergreen trees are a must for any garden that are part of your landscaping. They stay green all year round and when winter sets in, you can use decorative pieces to make them look even prettier than they already are. Christmas lights will certainly add a bit of color to match the green leaves!

Trees and shrubs with berries:

There are plenty of trees and shrubs that have berries growing on them. The berries stay on during fall and winter and they can do wonders for your landscape during these cold months. The berries will add color and beauty to your garden. Crabapples and Hollies are examples of such trees and shrubs.

Decorate your summer items:

If you have carts or wheelbarrows in your shed, get them out and let them do their bit for your autumn and winter landscaping. Hanging baskets and boxes will do just fine too. Fill them up with miniature shrubs such as dwarf Alberta spruce, Japanese andromeda, rhododendron and holly are all perfect for cold seasons and will make your garden look alive during these drab seasons!

You do not need to go through a lot of trouble over your landscaping this fall and winter. As mentioned earlier, all you need to do is a plan ahead. Consult your local gardening supply yard to see if they can help you find plants that will look nice during fall and winter. You can always have a beautiful landscape in your garden as long as you give it time, thought and planning!
