Make way for a summer kitchen
Make way for a summer kitchen
If you’re a cooking enthusiast, you might agree that there’s nothing more enjoyable than combining your favourite activity with the beautiful summer weather. This year, all that running back and forth between the house and the barbecue could be a thing of the past if you follow the trend and treat yourself to a summer kitchen.
Start small
An outdoor kitchen can easily evolve into an investment of several thousand dollars, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be that way. With a few essential items, you can create the summer kitchen you’ve always dreamed of.
Start with a good barbecue and a worktop. You can then add other items gradually, such as a sink, storage cabinets, refrigerator and pizza oven — the possibilities are endless.
Some golden rules
• Leave yourself enough room to move around and to eat. If you’re working with a limited amount of space, it’s best to decrease the dimensions of the kitchen rather than restricting sitting and dining areas. A linear kitchen rather than an L-shaped one is the best way to maximize on space.
• Keep in mind that your outdoor kitchen will be exposed to the elements. Prioritize long-lasting materials, which are resistant to sunlight and water, and which are easy to clean.
• Before starting your project, make sure you have easy access to water and electricity, even if you don’t plan on using them for the time being.
And once you’ve planned and built your kitchen, you’ll be chomping at the bit to gather family and friends together for a cozy homemade outdoor feast!
