Four ideas for outdoor spaces

This week, we'll see the first day of spring and I'm sure I speak for most of my readers when I say hallelujah!
After the cold, wet and frozen start to our year, I think we're all ready for the warm weather. When things begin to warm up, my first thoughts are about spending more time outside.

Whether it's on the deck, in the garden or the backyard, I like to bring the indoors outside. Outdoor spaces are important to home buyers and something a seller can highlight for great results when selling a home. Here are four outdoor ideas both buyers and sellers will love:

Define your spaces

If you have a large deck or patio space, create a dining space that is separate from a casual seating area. Planters can make a great border and bring the garden up on the deck. Lattice can further define space and offer privacy if neighbors are close by.

If you cook it, they will come

Outdoor kitchens can be a beautiful addition but can also be expensive. Most of us have a grill (or more than one). Don't simply stick them in the corner. Think about the traffic pattern from the kitchen and to your outdoor dining area. Add a side table or stand and you'll have a great outdoor cooking area for far less than a kitchen, and it will look better than an old grill in the corner.

Made in the shade

We all know how hot the summers can get. A pergola or arbor offers screening from the sun and is perfect for hanging plants, speakers or even a fan if you can get electrical to the location.

Accessories round it out

Consider lighting; from candles to a string of lights on your pergola. Nobody wants a floodlight shining on them. A fire pit, water feature, garden plaques or wrought iron pieces help complete that indoor/outdoor feeling.
