One of the sure shot ways to make your outdoor space look gorgeous is to add a pergola or gazebo to your garden.

A pergola is an arched structure with a framework on which trailing plants can grow. It consists of beams and posts, but it doesn't have walls or roof. It provides a shaded walkway and enhances the beauty of your garden. A pergola can be freestanding structure or it can be attached to your house. On the other hand, a gazebo is a freestanding structure with a proper roof (usually peaked) and an open framework.

Here are some useful tips for building a garden pergola.

Your pergola is going to be one of the most interesting features in your garden. Since it will attract a lot of eyeballs make sure that it blends with the style of your home. You will probably need to get council approvals and permits before building a pergola.

The materials used for building the pergola should be fit for outdoor use. Your pergola should be able to stand up to the elements. Use bolts and screws instead of nails. This will make the structure more stable.

You can build the pergola on your own with readily available pergola kits. However, if you are not the DIY type, you should consider hiring the service of an experienced contractor or builder.

Designing a gazebo for your yard needs some planning. Before building a gazebo, think about how you are going to use it. Are you planning to use it to entertain guests? Or is it supposed to be a shady place where you can read and rest?

While choosing a location for your gazebo, you need to consider a few things. Is it supposed to be a neat gathering place for family and friends? In that case, a location adjacent to your home is probably the best.

You can highlight the gazebo by making it the focal point of your outdoor living space. Alternatively, you can integrate it into the existing landscape.

Before building a gazebo, don't forget to obtain the necessary permits. That said, if your gazebo is under hundred square feet, you will probably not need a permit.

After choosing a gazebo design, you need to think about how you will be cultivating the landscape in the immediate surroundings of your gazebo. You can complement the gazebo design with flowers, shrubs and other garden features like water fountains. You can also consider creating a beautiful pathway to your gazebo opening.
