Folk heroine
The interior designer and boutique-hotel queen Kit Kemp (she of Covent Garden, Soho and Ham Yard hotel fame) has teamed up with the American retailer Anthropologie on her first range of furniture and home accessories. Strong bursts of colour and folkloric motifs appear across wallpaper, curtains, rugs, wall hangings and upholstered chairs, and there are rustic wooden tables too.
Standout pieces include a quirky orange armchair featuring a rhino (£898, pictured above) and this cheery cotton rug (£498, Anthropologie), which both embody Kemp’s upbeat signature style. 'Interiors should be fun, so let’s embrace the colour,’ she says. I couldn’t agree more.
Surf and turf
If you’re optimistically thinking about alfresco entertaining or heading into the wild over the bank-holiday weekend, John Lewis has an excellent selection of stylish shatterproof glassware and melamine plates that will add to the sense of occasion. The Explore range features abstracted vistas of land and sea that will look fetching in any back garden. Dinner plate and bowl, £3.50 each, John Lewis
In the frame
New from the Alicante-based brand Point, the Mist planter has a woven frame made from black or white lacquered aluminium and comes in three sizes. All are reassuringly weighty and will stay put on windy days, despite the top-heavy planting. From £280 each, Go Modern
Made in heaven
The online retailer Made has come up trumps with its new outdoor furniture collection. From simple, classic shapes to more eye-catching designs such as the Copa Aperitif set shown here (£399), there’s something to spruce up every conservatory or patio. Better still, it is all very reasonably priced, leaving more money to spend on actual aperitifs
