CAMO® Hidden Deck Fastening System Used in the ProWood® Desperate Deck Contest

On Saturday, November 16, 2013 a ribbon cutting ceremony took place in Chesapeake, Va. to celebrate the completion of ProWood’s Desperate Deck Contestwinner’s brand new ProWood deck.

In April of 2013, ProWood launched a Desperate Deck Contest and received nearly 100 entries. Judges selected the winner: Heather Foskey, of Chesapeake, Va., who wrote in her entry: “My husband is active-duty U.S. Navy and was stationed away from our home and two children for 15 months. He is deploying next year for at least nine months, which really limits his time for the ‘honey do list’ and proper maintenance of our home. Please help surprise him with the deck of our dreams!”

“Winning the Desperate Deck Contest was a dream come true and it has been so cool to watch everything taking place—from the design, to the build, to the decorating,” said Heather Foskey, winner of ProWood’s Desperate Deck Contest. “We love the hidden fastener look, it's great not to see everything that holds it together and we have definitely become the envy of the neighborhood.”

The custom-built ProWood Dura Color cedar-tone deck complete with a fire pit, gazebo, arbor and other amenities was built using ProWood lumber, Deckorators accessories and CAMO Hidden Fasteners, and built by George Drummond of CASA Decks. In addition, Mark Ekkens, CAMO Product Specialist from National Nail Corp., assisted for multiple days on the build.

“After reviewing Heather's photos and story, her entry was the obvious choice as the winner—her deck was unsafe and in disrepair,” said Chris Fox, Product and Brand Manager at Universal Forest Products. “Now Heather, along with her friends and family, will be able to enjoy a unique outdoor living area that she helped design.”

In addition to family members, George Drummond from CASA Decks, Chris Fox and others involved in the contest and build, Jason Cameron, licensed contractor and host of DIY Network’s Man Caves and Desperate Landscapes, was in attendance at the ribbon cutting ceremony.

ProWood – from Universal Forest Products – is the leader in professional-grade, pressure-treated lumber used in decks, fencing and other outdoor projects.
